Leading the charge in Portugal’s textile sustainability landscape, Ledechem proudly stands as a pioneer in securing renowned certifications. Our latest achievement is the integration of GOTS 7.0 certified solutions into our diverse product portfolio, solidifying our commitment to eco-friendly practices. With 49 distinct products already meeting this stringent standard and an additional 13 undergoing the certification process, we’re setting new benchmarks for sustainable chemical solutions.
The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) Version 7.0 represents a monumental leap forward in sustainable textile processing. Here’s a glimpse of the key additions and improvements:
- Expanded Scope: GOTS 7.0 introduces an expanded scope of environmental and social criteria, making it more comprehensive while remaining practical for industrial production.
- Due Diligence Criteria: Certified entities are now required to address their actual and potential negative impacts on human rights and the environment, aligning with the UN Guiding Principles for Business and Human Rights.
- Recycled Organic Fibres: GOTS 7.0 allows the use of recycled organic fibres as additional materials, contributing to a more circular approach in textile production.
- Stricter Substance Limits: Criteria for incoming organic materials have been made stricter, including the prohibition of substances.
- Human Rights Focus: The Social Criteria section has been substantially revised to include a broader human rights-focused approach, requiring entities to respect internationally recognized human rights protocols.
- Living Wage Gap Coverage: Certified entities are now obligated to develop a plan to cover the living wage gap, emphasizing fair labor practices.
- Occupational Health and Safety: Occupational health and safety criteria have been revised to consider best international practices and recommendations from the International Labour Organization (ILO).
This achievement reflects our unwavering commitment to sustainability. Each GOTS 7.0 certified product signifies a step towards eco-friendly and socially responsible practices in the textile industry. As we embrace the challenges and opportunities of the coming year, our commitment to innovation, sustainability, and customer satisfaction remains steadfast. Thank you for being part of our journey towards a more responsible future.
